Tensile Test of Human Lumbar Ligamentum Flavum: Age-Related Changes of Stiffness

چکیده
The most common cause of lumbar spinal canal stenosis is age-related degenerative changes. ligamentum flavum said to become thicker and stiffer with age, based on several histological cadaver studies. However, there are no studies determining the changes mechanical properties in live patients. We examined patients evaluated A total 44 undergoing decompression surgery due disease at our institute were included. was harvested from site as a part necessary procedure for decompression. tensile test performed within 24 h harvest. Age-related stiffness evaluated. Age only factor that showed significant correlation multiple regression analysis. demonstrated change age.

An anatomical study of the human lumbar ligamentum flavum.
OBJECTIVE A detailed investigation of the gross and microscopic anatomy of ligamentum flavum. METHODS Material included 14 lumbar vertebral columns obtained from the Anatomy Department, King Faisal University, Dammam during the period between January 2005 and January 2006. Height, width, and thickness of ligamenta flava were measured. A microscopic study was also performed. Computed tomograph...
متن کاملLigamentum flavum hematoma in the lumbar spine.
A patient who presented with symptoms suggestive of nerve root compression secondary to an extradural mass was found to have a hematoma in the ligamentum flavum. Pathological examination of surgical specimens revealed an old hemorrhage, and hemosiderin deposits around organized granulation tissue within the ligamentum flavum. Vessels within the ligamentum flavum had, presumably, ruptured during...
متن کاملExperimental Mouse Model of Lumbar Ligamentum Flavum Hypertrophy
Lumbar spinal canal stenosis (LSCS) is one of the most common spinal disorders in elderly people, with the number of LSCS patients increasing due to the aging of the population. The ligamentum flavum (LF) is a spinal ligament located in the interior of the vertebral canal, and hypertrophy of the LF, which causes the direct compression of the nerve roots and/or cauda equine, is a major cause of ...
متن کاملHaemorrhagic Lumbar Juxtafacet Cyst with Ligamentum Flavum Involvement
Juxtafacet cysts are an uncommon cause of radiculopathy. They occur most frequently in the lumbar region, and their distribution across the spine correlates with mobility. Haemorrhagic complications are rare and may occur in the absence of any provocation, although there is some association with anticoagulation and trauma. We present a case of acute radiculopathy due to an L5/S1 juxtafacet cyst...
متن کاملChange of Lumbar Ligamentum Flavum after Indirect Decompression Using Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion
STUDY DESIGN Retrospective case series. PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to examine changes in the ligamentum flavum thickness and remodeling of the spinal canal after anterior fusion during a 10-year follow-up. OVERVIEW OF LITERATURE Extreme lateral interbody fusion provides minimally invasive treatment of the lumbar spine; this anterior fusion without direct posterior decompression, ...
